Re: A Green Tinted Sky - Aadibah - 01-11-2016

Yup. Magic. You here that, Aadibah? Damned magic.

It was at this point in time the soldier decided to mentally let go of all reality and just roll with whatever the hell was going on now. A little voice in the back of her mind whispered the possibility of a fever dream, maybe she'd caught something before getting on the plane and it was just now affecting her. Or maybe she was in a coma, and somehow survived the crash. Either way, she was here, and she had to follow new rules.

Aadibah did, however, notice something that gave her a bit of grounding. Both of the men she had just met would take moments of concentration before creating something seemingly out of thin air. Maybe this "magic" worked akin to the fantasy novels of her world, envision something in your mind, focus on it, and it appears.

While the two were busy in conversation, Aadibah crossed her arms, closing her eyes. In her mind, she began to form...

A pen. Yes. Should be simple enough, right?

Re: A Green Tinted Sky - The Rogue - 01-11-2016

Connor turns and sits on Trimmererra. The light of the Nexus gleaming off of the metal of the bike.

"So Sonny and Somereld? Two minds stuck in the same body, I might have a plan for that actually..."

Connor turns the key in the ignition and Trimmererra's engine revs loudly.

"I think you can summon your buddy in as a Secondary, it might work, it might not. I don't know, but I want to ask the both of you a question."

Connor clears his throat and gathers his thoughts,

"Would you two like to join me on my search for an island similar to my home on Arcaidia. You don't have to stick around after we find it, just can you please at least accompany me there?"

Re: A Green Tinted Sky - Clownpiece - 01-12-2016

Somerled’s gaze fell to the ground as he thought over Connor’s suggestion. That deliberation didn’t last too long, however, as the spirit was quickly overcome with confusion, and rather than continue thinking about it anymore, he just dropped it. The logistics of summoning someone who was already here presented far too many issues for him. Would it make a second Sonny? Would it rewrite him entirely? Just how the hell would it work in general? It didn’t help that the entire nature of the split gave him a headache if he thought about it too much.

The best bet there was, or so he thought, would be finding someone not unlike the magician he had foolishly antagonized all those centuries ago. If a powerful magical adversary split his mind in two the first time, who says there couldn’t be one to do it a second time? It was either that or find someone to make him whole once again, which would arguably be harder because no one who wanted to keep their sanity would even dare think about delving into that absolute mess of a spell that split him originally. That magician could have at least bothered to take the time to write up some coherent spell.

The revving of engines caused the monster’s head to pop back up, finishing off his train of thought.
Quote:"Would you two like to join me on my search for an island similar to my home on Arcadia. You don't have to stick around after we find it, just can you please at least accompany me there?"
The man put forth his question, and Somerled paused for a moment. A quick glance cast around the endless white surrounding them only made the offer more tempting. At the moment, he had no other leads to go on. Which meant his only option would be to wander off towards one of the things in the distance and hoped everything worked out. In this place he was unfamiliar with, it would be much smarter to travel with company, especially since Connor was at least somewhat familiar with this world.

“Sure,” he answered, giving no further explanation. He made the decision having no conference with his other half. Sonny would just have to go with it. “Just give me a minute to saddle up.” Turning quickly on his heels, the spirit strode over to his mount, and set to work coaxing it out of the monolith/fountain thing so he could prepare for the ride.

Re: A Green Tinted Sky - Aadibah - 01-13-2016

Inside Aadibah's cupped hands, there was a small sound, and a tiny spark as if a flashlight was quickly turned on and back off. When the soldier opened her fingers to observe what was inside, her face couldn't decided whether it wanted to smile, frown, or scream. She could feel her throat well up in reaction to what she was witnessing, her lungs compressing, but her mouth refused to open.

Quote:"Would you two like to join me on my search for an island similar to my home on Arcadia. You don't have to stick around after we find it, just can you please at least accompany me there?"

Aadibah's attention was drawn back to the two men, Somerled affirming that he would travel with Hound. The query sat in the soldier's mind for a few moments. It wasn't like there was anywhere to go, now that everything she had put so much effort into for the past few years had literally been peeled away, a new world put in place. She was alive, and she had to make herself useful for... something...

"Hound," She turned to the man supposedly from her future, "I would like to accompany you." As the words came out, her back straightened, her eyes narrowed, her head held even. "I could be of assistance to... whatever it is your agenda is."

Re: A Green Tinted Sky - The Rogue - 01-13-2016

He smiles his dorky smile and looks at them. Then he notices that Aadibah doesn't have a ride.

“Uh do you have a ride? If not, Trimmererra is a two seater.”, he offers kindly as he position himself and the bike southwest towards two giant Palm trees that bend over and meet each other.

He smiles at her kindly.

Re: A Green Tinted Sky - Clownpiece - 01-13-2016

As Somerled discovered the hard way, the moose is a rather stubborn animal, and would not be lured out of its ankle-deep puddle so easily. This was especially true given that his idea of ‘coaxing’ was less luring it out, and more trying to brute force it out. This method, while it does have its uses, doesn’t work so well when the thing you’re trying to force is almost a foot taller than you and outweighs you by a thousand or so pounds. Even with his monstrous strength and the fact that he had the behemoth by the antlers, his disadvantageous position of precariously balancing on the edge of the fountain prevented him from actually pulling the thing out of the water. The moose simply lowered its head and pulled back, putting the two in a stalemate.

Deciding that this was going nowhere, Somerled gave up on that method, pushing off the moose’s antlers in order to regain his balance. The lumbering animal, in response to the force suddenly giving up, simply snorted, and leaned down to drink from the fountain. Lacking any sort of finesse or subtlety, the spirit quickly decided that the next course of action would be to use the crack of thunder to spook it out.

“Don’t even think about it,” Sonny interrupted, knowing his other half all too well. “We don’t need a fucking moose rampaging around, scared out of its mind. It’s water, who cares if you get your feet wet, you can’t even feel it.”
Somerled grumbled something incoherently in response, his tone betraying irritation despite the lack of actual words being said. He leaned back towards the dry ground behind him, and grabbed the saddle from the spot he had set it. Then without any of the hesitation he had earlier, he jumped right into the water of the fountain next to the beast.

The calm animal paid no mind to the giant seat being strapped to its back, continuing to drink. Finishing the strapping quickly thanks to the cooperativeness of the mount, Somerled was able to quickly move onto the reins. Upon having its snout lifted out of the water by the monster’s forceful hand, the moose let out a protesting snort, but didn’t make any move to pull its head away. The reins slipped on quickly enough, and with a short look-over, making sure all the straps were tight, Somerled pulled himself onto the beast, ready to go.

Re: A Green Tinted Sky - Aadibah - 01-13-2016

The soldier shrugged, and hopped on, sitting with her back against her new companion's, gripping the edges of the seat. If this guy tried anything, she would know exactly what to rip out to make him fly off the handlebars.

"I thank you for the assistance." Aadibah said out loud, trying to convey that she was honest in her words, "I'm honestly surprised I found any friendly people here." She was surprised that she had found anyone at all. It made the whole experience that much more bearable. The fact that there was something of a reality in this new world she was trapped in, some sort of substance to plant her feet on. It allowed her mind something to work on, instead of just... emptiness.

"So, let's entertain the thought that you are from my future." The soldier attempted small talk. "What is it like, then? What is the world like? Is it ruined? Is it a paradise?" Aadibah had read all of the dos and don'ts of theoretical time travel, paradoxes and the butterfly effect. She figured none of that mattered now.

Re: A Green Tinted Sky - The Rogue - 01-14-2016

He nods to Somerled and points to the gate. Connor then proceeds to head that way. He turns Aadibah’s question over and over again.

“I wouldn't call it paradise, but it isn't a wasteland. There is still war, poverty, political unrest, and the like. Business as usual, but the tech is much more advanced. They started prototyping full armored suits in 2047, then the suits were ready for full combat in 2054. In 2068 the first prototypes for laser weaponry were announced, but the one defect is why they aren't successful. The weapons tend to overheat and explode. Oh yeah that reminds me! Monofillament, they made this ceramic-tungsten alloy that's really smooth so there is no microscopic imperfections. Because of this, they can make a knife’s blade down to one molecule, so it's really sharp. One downside though, since the blades are really thin and hard, they are brittle and break easily. On the other hand monofilament wire is useful for traps and stuff”

Connor howls and twists the throttle of his bike, bringing her to full speed.

“Oh yeah and hover technology, it makes things faster since there is less friction from the ground, just have to worry about air resistance.”

Re: A Green Tinted Sky - Clownpiece - 01-14-2016

At Connor’s mark, Somerled spurred the beast into action. Without a moment’s hesitation, the moose launched itself forward, keeping pace with the man’s motorbike despite its awkward gait.

“Alright Sonny,” Somerled said not long after the ride began, needing to clear some things up with his other half. Without waiting for a response from Sonny, the storm spirit set into a long-winded explanation about the decisions and observations he had been making recently. Odds are he was just preaching to the choir in talking to his other half about these things, but it was probably best to make sure. If Sonny didn’t know what was going on, then that was one less half of a mind that could help when brainpower was needed.

At the end of Somerled’s explanation, Sonny began humming lightly, a sound that used up their mutual voice without yet saying anything. This way Somerled wouldn’t make the mistake of thinking that the sun spirit wasn’t listening.
“A lot of this just seems to be wishful thinking,” he said once his thoughts had gathered completely. “But I guess we’ll see when we come to it.” Sonny paused for a few moments, listening carefully to the roar of the motorbike. Certain that the two on the bike wouldn’t be able to hear what he was going to say, he spoke again. “And don’t think I’ve forgotten just because I’m stuck in here. Don’t antagonize people, stop talking if you get too angry, don’t threaten to eat people, if you’re gonna eat people, do it discretely, et cetera et cetera. You know, the usual.”
“I know.” Although he said it seriously, the menacing tone to Somerled’s voice didn’t fill Sonny with hope.

Re: A Green Tinted Sky - Aadibah - 01-16-2016

Business as usual. So history does repeat itself... Aadibah felt her weight get pulled back as the flying bike took off, her fingers tightening the sides of the seat harder as she steadied herself.

"Why even have a blade like that...?" From what Aadibah had read in military history texts, blades needed to flex so as to not break against armor. Seemed kind of like an extreme trade off. Then again, if one of her pressure lines broke it would blow her arm off. However, the mention of lasers intrigued her.

"And lasers were already being developed even a few years before my time, what's different about these ones? More efficient? More compact?" The kind of a weapon could have proven useful in her war effort. Especially with heavy armor.

The fact that her suit's design had been taken up by another party, and was being mass-produced, that sent a sinking feeling into Aadibah's stomach. With her primitive tech alone the soldier had probably killed over a hundred men, and kept a war burning strong. In the wrong hands, and those same hands the only ones possessing the tech, how many lives had been taken because of her ambition?

Re: A Green Tinted Sky - The Rogue - 01-17-2016

“They have their uses, the blade is so sharp that it takes hardly any effort to cut or stab. I could sink a blade in someone's ribs calmly, or cut off a hand like cutting butter. The laser experiments of 2018, I remember reading about them, in 2023 they stopped trying for bit. The lasers would take hours to heat up enough to cut ice, and it took tremendous power. In 2068 they tried again, the lasers were now handheld and heated much faster.”

After that he stopped talking and kept on his way to the gate. In a short 12 minutes they arrive, no one else on this side of the gate. Connor looks at Somerled,

“Rock, paper, scissors to see who goes first?” Connor holds out his fist to see if Somerled agrees to play.

Re: A Green Tinted Sky - Clownpiece - 01-17-2016

The gate that stood in front of the now-still Somerled was quite imposing, by its own right. Standing at an intimidating 12 feet tall and wide, those who came up to it would find themselves dwarfed by it. Seated on the lofty heights of his mount however, the monster was quite unimpressed by it, figuring that if it was any shorter, then he would have to worry about bashing his head on the overhang. Not that he wasn’t worried about it anyway, as the two twisting palm trees marking the edge of the gate weren’t exactly the smoothest of borders. Where the two trees met, massive leaves hung around just about all over the place, including a few feet down to where they’d intrude upon the same space Somerled’s head would occupy, if he chose to ride through in that moment. When he needed to go through, the spirit decided, he would either have to dismount and lead his mount through, or he’d need to duck down, unless he wanted to find out the hard way whether these trees were the real deal, or just statues.

While he did find issue with this, another matter of the gate stole his attention away. The inside of the gate bore the same featureless white that marked the rest of the landscape around them. To Somerled, this was a load of bullshit because there was really no way to tell whether walking through the gate would actually get him places. For all he knew, the trees could be purely decorative and walking through would be pointless. Or it could be a wall, which wouldn’t be fun to walk into at all. There were a myriad of other possibilities, too many of which would be pointless or downright dangerous, and none of which eased his paranoia.
Quote:“Rock, paper, scissors to see who goes first?”
Connor’s voice drew Somerled’s attention away from the gate. From his motorbike, the man held out his fist. Though he didn’t particularly want to go through the arch first, due to the issues he was having with it, he agreed to the game. If he was to go first, then he was to go first, no other way around it. With a quick count to three, the man and monster’s hands danced in the familiar child’s game, coming to a rest with rock and paper respectively.

Somerled sighed inwardly, keeping a bright smile on his face as usual. “I guess I’ll go through first then,” he said, equal parts curiosity and apprehension stirring inside him. “See you guys on the other side.” Bowing his body low to the moose, he spurred it forward, and at once he was thrown through the white of the gate.

Re: A Green Tinted Sky - Aadibah - 01-18-2016

The exchange that happened in front of her occurred largely out of Aadibah's own input, though it made sense considering she would be going in at the same time as Connor anyways. While the men played their game, the soldier admired the "gateway" that lay in front of her. In fact, she just now noticed that the white space the trio occupied had its own limits, surrounded by a large ring of similar gateways. It reminded her of some larger government buildings back in her world, except significantly more quiet as it lacked hundreds of bickering old men and women.

And judging from what Connor has said, these gateways must go to different realms or something. Like a hub of some kind. Aadibah was starting to get used to thinking in terms that were typically fantastical to her. And this leads to the "Vasty Deep"... let me guess, some kind of oceanic region? Did every realm have a cheesy shtick to it?

The soldier was torn from her train of thought as suddenly Somerled leaped through the gateway on his moose. That was one thing she would probably never get used to, of all she'd seen, a man riding on a moose. She prepared for Connor to go through next.

Re: A Green Tinted Sky - The Rogue - 01-19-2016

"This can be cold going through...", Connor says to his passenger while remembering his passage through the Courscant gate. He shivers.

"Just be prepared", he quickly tells Aadibah as he pulls back the throttle of his bike. They lurch forward and Connor holds his breath as he goes through.
