Basically, the way I read it is thus:
B) Gather a strong enough force to gather items and deal with rivals without being grouped with folks so strong you don't stand a chance at beating them if you get culled.
C) Just jump to the army with the strongest writers/characters and ride it out to the end.
Could be wrong, of course, but that's how I see it.

Basically, this is my thought process on the whole deal:
I'd rather try my best and fail than win without pushing myself to be a better writer. That's why I prefer B, which is stricter in regards to time AND pits me against some of the best writers I've ever read.

B would most definitely satiate that urge for traditional (albeit accelerated) PvP
(not that PvP won't also be in the other format, of course. But B is just straight PvP)
