Re: Magus... - Magus - 09-27-2013 Nanoha Takamachi Wrote:If there was a better final boss, it'd probably be Kefka or Jon Irenicus. So. Much. This. I would take fantastic writing and characterization any day over a 300 million dollar budgeted game filled with unrelatable, boring, 1-dimensional characters. Kefka and Irenicus are incredible villains. I don't think Magus or Ganondorf could hold a candle to either one. Mind, as Proto said, Magus turns out to be not really a villain at all (holy fuck there's so much debate/theories/blah blah that go into who/what Magus was from villain to 'true' protagonist, etc, that it's all pretty convoluted). Jeff and I actually discussed one of us should have been Kefka lmao What happened to characters like that? Re: Magus... - Nanoha Takamachi - 09-27-2013 I think Ganondorf has an incredible sense of presence, even if his actual characterisation within the games isn't consistently brilliant. I should note that while I def think Kefka and Irenicus are much more complex characters than Ganondorf is, I still think I enjoyed the sheer epic feel of the Wind Waker final battle more than either of their final battles (despite them being very awesome too). Re: Magus... - Omni - 09-27-2013 In some ways though, a less-well-written character is good for an RPG, because it allows you to fill in the blanks and tell the story yourself. With a complete character, there's nothing to do ![]() Granted, if I was going to join as a villain it'd be Enel from One Piece, just because the appeal of writing as someone who literally believes he is God (and has some crazy awesome powers) would be very fun. Also because I love lightning. Shut up. Re: Magus... - Thaal Sinestro - 09-27-2013 An issue that recurrs with MOST comic book characters (especially in DC) is that how interesting and good a character is depends entirely on who is writing that run of the comic. It also kind of ties he hands of the writer because it requires all of the history of their madness and that they have to not screw up the character for future writers. I'm really glad that Geoff picked up GL from a place where it was pretty much in ruins, so he could build it all fresh. Re: Magus... - Illidan Stormrage - 09-27-2013 WW's boss fight was pretty sweet, but the boss battle from LoZ that lingers most in my mind is the Twilight Princess one. And yes I'll post today, I've been mentally blocked every time I sat down to write. BUT NOT NOW, I'M GOING TO POST KILLING GANONDORF WITH MY MIND Re: Magus... - Ganondorf - 09-27-2013 I also enjoyed the TP Ganondorf fight. The whole thing, from Possessed Zelda, to Beast Ganon, to chasing him on horseback, to the epic sword fight. Re: Magus... - Ganondorf - 09-27-2013 Also: *Ganondorf suddenly dies of a heart attack, leaving his fellows with these final words* CURSE YOU LINK! Re: Magus... - Omni - 09-27-2013 I thought it was all far too easy. Took away the feeling of epic for me. Could be that I'm just a master with the wiimote. Then again, I found Skyward Sword to be perfect in terms of difficulty. Re: Magus... - Ganondorf - 09-27-2013 I think it might have been the quicktime events. It did take some of the epicness from the fight, as they always do. But in terms of atmosphere and an appropriate boss-fight for the end of the game, I think it was dead on. Ganondorf crushing the ultimate artifact of the Twili. Possessing Zelda. Being beast and man, and matching Link in swordplay. That's how a true boss rolls. Re: Magus... - Omni - 09-27-2013 I was like "You bastard!" when he possessed Zelda. I'm always a sucker for the princess, childhood crush and all. Re: Magus... - Ganondorf - 09-27-2013 Real villains turn your friends into your enemies. Which I shall do with Eighteen and all others. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGZdPxLcHV8 |
