RE: Cirno vs. Hecate OOC - Crocodile - 02-25-2018 I don't like that level gives an innate advantage either, but I was made painfully aware of the fact that it does during the latest DA. Thus why I included it. I'll probably end up putting a cap on "level advantage" points when next I grade, so it never becomes an insurmountable advantage RE: Cirno vs. Hecate OOC - Dane Regan - 02-26-2018 @Croc: I think it would be better to make the catagory more general and arbitrary, taking in the difference in powers and stat upgrades and moves (the non-sp stuff that comes with high levels). Or, at least those they used in the fight that had an impact. RE: Cirno vs. Hecate OOC - Reece - 02-26-2018 @Croc - Ah, okay then. I've not actually read the DA threads, so I hadn't realised that. I still don't plan on including level as an advantage when I make judgements, though... since the FAQ clearly states that the only advantage it should give is in SP.
Quote:Q8: Does levelling up make me stronger in general?
RE: Cirno vs. Hecate OOC - Crocodile - 02-26-2018 Well, not only in the DA threads, but yeah. I know the FAQ. It may not be entirely accurate, however. There's at least one instance I ran into where, despite having the SP and HP advantage going into a fight, I lost it. Granted, a lot of that boils down to my opponent (a man known for his top-notch writing skills), but it's still a bit deceptive to claim that you'll always have a chance against a veteran. From my experience, a level difference of 4 or more is going to be a practically insurmountable challenge, even if you stack the odds in your favor. I go with a 1 point per level difference approach because it allows smaller differences to be surmountable via the other categories while still taking into account the OM spent on Moves, Powers, and Stat Improvements, and being far simpler, and objective, to calculate than "ok, this person used these things and has these stats and... etc. So I'll add arbitrary numbers to adjust accordingly." I also keep it separate from SP to allow for people who DO stack the odds in their favor to add points to their scores.all that said, this is my personal method of judgement. I put thought into it, but it favors my mindset, opinions, and experiences. If it doesn't suit your style of judging, feel free not to use it. |
