Re: Get Advice Thrown at you by the Proto Man - Strazio Rockwell - 05-01-2015 Hey Protoman can you hit me up with some of that sage-like wisdom? What do I have the most to be worried about and how can I prepare for it on the island? XD I actually like your work, although I know that you're sorting things out. There's a reason why you're a Rising Star (whether you win the vote or not, you're still an awesome new member in my page). More importantly, I don't think you'll have a problem being active and creating an interesting story. The character you have will thrive in Dante's Abyss, but I think you'll definitely need to get bloody to get the ball rolling, especially if you wind up with a half-decent Weapon. With a nice weapon, you could easily be a 'hunter' type, and if you manage to get a few kills and build up a nice arsenal, you could be a major headache to a lot of people later in the game. What do I have the most to be worried about and how can I prepare for it on the island? You can go about this two ways. 1 - Write 1st Person, go it alone : You're a strong writer with a character who has a lot of material you can work with while on the island. If you wind up with a good weapon, I strongly encourage you to try and get into a fight or two early on, especially if you can stumble across some weaker foes. Just like I told Doomguy (who also writes 1st person), I think the perspective could be awesome if done very well. 2 - Write 3rd person and work in small groups. I say this because you're with some people IC at the moment. You may want to seek them out from the start if you wind up with a less-than stellar Weapon. Teaming with people like Gilgamesh and Crona will provide you with some breathing room, but you need to make sure you match them and don't become 2nd or 3rd fiddle. That will only do you more harm than good in the long run, but I think that your character and Gilgamesh could create a very interesting dynamic that could keep your story fresh. Moral of the story - Whether you go alone or in a group, I implore you to seek out an early-game kill. Unless you do terrible in the pre-show writing, you have the potential to 'Retane' someone on Day 1. Funfact - Retane is now a verb that means 'to shockingly screw up someone's day.' Re: Get Advice Thrown at you by the Proto Man - Proto Man - 05-02-2015 Link Wrote:What's a Link got to do around here to do well? Kind of hard to answer this one, if you want me to be completely honest. You're a very skilled writer, and while never as a Hyrulian, you have loads of previous experience in this situation. I guess I have a counter-question - What will Link's motivation be for entering? Re: Get Advice Thrown at you by the Proto Man - Illidan Stormrage - 05-02-2015 It'll be against his will or tricked - not sure how I'm going to do it yet. It may even be a strong urge to get Ganondorf - that would be great fodder, if he put his selfish (ish) desire to kill Ganon over the saftey of other people. Re: Get Advice Thrown at you by the Proto Man - Darth Vader - 05-02-2015 I have the lingering feeling I'll get my ass kicked anyway, but got a rough prediction of my standing at the end of things? And do you have any advice for me so I can up my game a little? Re: Get Advice Thrown at you by the Proto Man - Harry Dresden - 05-04-2015 Too lazy to switch accounts right now. What do you think of Neku in the Abyss? He's had to adapt to strange circumstances before, but he's a bit of a city rat. He doesn't seem to have problems with violence, even against other people; Shockwave is one of his signature Psychs in the game, and that basically lets him cut things with his hand. I think the hard part for him's gonna be physically keeping up with the older/more trained/superhuman combatants, and the survival thing. He's a bit of a city rat. Given his somewhat nicer disposition, maybe he gets tricked to sign up? If you can find your mojo, you could easily finish in the top 10. Hrm, yea, I'm not as up-to-snuff with your Neku stuff. The last thing I read was when you had that fight with some people shortly after you joined/before you got IRL'd. A city rat being thrown onto an island could make for some interesting storytelling (although there is a city and a village on the island that Neku could camp at). You could make the story Neku vs the Island more so than Neku vs the other competitors -- have his greatest challenge be adapting. As for the other competitors -- well, that's just a matter of luck and strategy

Jon's gonna go in there not really knowing what to expect, lol. Re: Get Advice Thrown at you by the Proto Man - Deadpool - 05-04-2015 Jon and Sasuke could be a formidable duo in DA. Re: Get Advice Thrown at you by the Proto Man - Gilgamesh - 05-04-2015 Muahahahahaha Re: Get Advice Thrown at you by the Proto Man - PepsiWhirda - 05-04-2015 Having never done a DA before: Whirda excels in skirmishes and survivalism, and her disposition is more and more evil as time goes on. Will I be best suited focusing on the writing and skulking around alone, or is my skill-set better for a group dynamic? Will it come down to whatever weapon I get at the beginning? Re: Get Advice Thrown at you by the Proto Man - Proto Man - 05-04-2015 If you think you can write out a compelling arc for Whirda on the island, I think you'd be better off on your own trying to ambush people every now and again. You certainly could pull off the partner or small group dynamic, but I think you'd be better of spending most of your time alone. Even with a poor weapon, you have enough writing talent to make a lot of people miserable if they run into Whirda. Re: Get Advice Thrown at you by the Proto Man - Gilgamesh - 05-04-2015 If I have a large group should we split into little squads to get more ground covered or run around as one large squad Re: Get Advice Thrown at you by the Proto Man - PepsiWhirda - 05-04-2015 Random weapon is a funny dynamic. Whirda would probably prefer the spork over anything over 25 lbs.

In a large group, the best characters are going to overshadow their peers. That's great if you're the focal point, but it's not great to be the person who gets turned into the meat-shield.
