The Green Newcomer - Grapefruit - 12-15-2017

For almost twenty minutes now, a dark green robot has been standing in front of the fountain. His mask-like face is incapable of expressing the utter confusion that fills his mind. Was life supposed to be like this? His eyes scan the white, flat expanse that surrounds the fountain. Could this be heaven? Do robots even get to go to the afterlife? The robot looks at his three-fingered hands as he reminisces over his previous life, or tries to anyway. The transportation to this world had left him feeling groggy, as if his brain was filled with static, and his memories were shot. He can't remember a single thing from his previous life, except for the moment of his demise. A flash of light blinded him, and his whole body broke apart as he lost consciousness. Then he met what he could only assume to be God. With nothing more than a quick explanation and the parting of a gift, the god who called himself Omni disappeared, and this strange area took his place. And so, the robot has been standing here not knowing what to do. The grogginess has long passed, but the memories have not come back. The robot looks up at all the people walking through the area. They seem quite busy. "I am wasting time", the robot thinks to himself. And, for that matter, he's wasting energy; his fuel sensors start going off in the back of his mind, complaining about a lack of fuel. "Uh oh." The robot says. He doesn't know what to do, he doesn't even know what fuel his engine uses. His eyes dart around frantically as panic fills his mind. He flashes back to a distant memory of himself, in a similar predicament. However, his past self did not panic like he's doing now. He had simply grabbed a glass of orange juice and drank it to refuel himself. "Orange juice, that's it!" But how can he get it? He remembers Omni's explanation: The Omnilium given to him can be used to obtain what he desires. That's nice and all, but where's the Omnilium that Omni gave him? The robot tries to figure out where the Omnilium went, and slowly, he realizes that the orb had somehow... been absorbed into his body. He is not sure when it happened or how he had come to this conclusion, but there's no time to think about that when that fuel sensor is bugging him. Without thinking about it, the robot holds out his hand and concentrates on the power within himself. After what seems like forever, a rainbow bubble emerges from his hand, and fades away. In the bubble's place is a nice, cold glass of orange juice. The robot lifts his head up and pours the juice into his open mouth. As he downs the drink, the familiarity of the action causes him to feel at peace. In this peaceful state of mind, his name comes to his mind: Grapefruit. After finishing the drink, his fuel sensors stop bugging him, so Grapefruit starts considering what to do next. He looks around once more at his surroundings. Grapefruit has no idea what to do, but perhaps if he wanders around, he will find something to do. It's better than standing around doing nothing. And so, he walks away from the fountain.

RE: The Green Newcomer - Strazio Rockwell - 12-22-2017

Valerie shivered as he stepped through the Frozen Field’s gateway. A cloak made from a mishmash of leaves and vines clung to his lithe frame. Snow and ice covered the cloak, swallowing him in a layer of white. His fingers tugged at the clasp, which was just a few intricately knotted vines, and in one motion he shed his shell of cold and leaves. The discarded cloak withered and disintegrated after a few seconds, leaving behind a pile of rapidly melting snow. What remained was a man dressed in garish summer colors. He wore a long and loose coat that he wore not unlike a dress. While his clothing carried a smattering of bright oranges, yellows, and greens his skin only held a soft green pigmentation. Even his hair and nails were colored a pale green. As he wiped away the last bit of snow that clung stubbornly to his hair he produced a crown of flowers from his palm and wrapped it around his forehead.

Val smiled and stretched. While the Nexus wasn’t particularly warm by any stretch of the imagination it was a welcome change of pace to the blistering winds of the Frozen Fields. He scanned his surroundings and noticed several figures scattered across the Nexus. None of them were very interesting, just a few stormtroopers and camelot knights standing sentinel at their respective gates. None of them piqued his interest except for one humanoid fellow standing near the Fountain of Infinity. The stranger stood taller than the average person and wore sleek armor that was a much darker green than that of Valerie’s ensemble. Perhaps what was most striking about this character was the bright orange sphere seemingly embedded into its chest. Val clapped his hands together and stood on his tiptoes, excited at the prospect of meeting someone so peculiar.

As Valerie approached the stranger he came to realize that the stranger’s armor was part of his body. Still this discovery did nothing but to entice the mage closer.

“Greetings stranger!” Valerie practically shouted once he was close to the robot.

Grapefruit turned around and scanned the man placed before him.

“Ah, where are my manners?” Valerie said.

He held out his hand with the palm facing upwards. From the center of his palm sprouted a thin green stalk. The sprout grew quickly, developing a series of orange petals that spiraled around a central green body. A bright yellow pistil pierced through the twisting orange petals and spread open, providing a crown for the rest of the flower. Once the thin plant reached its full height of about a foot Valerie plucked it with his free hand.He offered the fragile-looking flower to his newfound companion.

“My name is Valerie LaMolle, and this is a gift,” he said, “in my land they call this a ‘Titian Lance’, a beautiful flower that hides a series of nasty barbs beneath its frail petals, but please do not fret my friend I have altered this strain so as to not produce its signature barbs, but please take it as a token of our newly minted companionship!”

RE: The Green Newcomer - Grapefruit - 12-22-2017

Grapefruit's hand slowly reaches out and takes the flower offered to him. His other hand idly holds the empty glass. He finds it a bit disquieting that this stranger before him is so eager to befriend him, even though they had just met. This guy must be crazy. Or is it normal for the people in this land to be so friendly, and Grapefruit is the weird one for being so reluctant? These thoughts muddle Grapefruit's mind as, after an awkward pause, he says, "I am Grapefruit. I am new to this, uhm..." What did Omni call this place again? The newbie robot's gaze turns away from Valerie's eyes as he tries to recall Omni's speech.

"This is the Omniverse, my budding friend." Valerie says with a big smile, interrupting Grapefruit's train of thought. "I bid you welcome. May I ask who summoned you?"

Grapefruit looks back down at Valerie. "Summoned?" After Valerie gives him a quick explanation on what he meant by summoning, Grapefruit looks up in thought. "The one who 'summoned' me was... he was completely white, with barely any features. Uh, he called himself Omni." He returns his gaze to Valerie's. Grapefruit does not yet know about the significance of being summoned by Omni himself.

Quote:Did I roleplay Valerie correctly? I've read his entry on your NPC list, but I want to make sure I didn't make any mistakes.

RE: The Green Newcomer - Strazio Rockwell - 12-23-2017

“Ohhhh how serendipitous,” exclaimed Valerie, clapping his hands together, “you’re a very special individual Grapefruit, whether you realize it or not.”

The robot shifted slightly and responded, “what do you mean?”

Valerie twirled, taking a few steps closer to the fountain. He began to speak, and as he did his fingers danced to the beat of their own drums. The liveliness in his hands was nothing more than a nervous tic that he had never bothered to correct.

“You see, there are two kinds of beings present in the Omniverse, primes and secondaries,” he pointed upwards, “those brought here by Omni are essentially immortal demigods, and those that are summoned by primes, such as myself, are secondaries and we are nothing but mere mortals and spectators in the grand scheme of things.”

Grapefruit asked, “why are you telling me this?”

Val shrugged. He pointed towards the Stormtroopers in the distance.

“There are those here that would love nothing more than to lie to you and exploit your powers for there own wicked gain,” Valerie said, “well I suppose I could be one of those sinister ne'er-do-well, so I implore you to seek the truth for yourselves.”

Quote: You did just fine Smile let me know if I do anything incorrect with Grapefruit.

RE: The Green Newcomer - Grapefruit - 12-23-2017

This is a lot for Grapefruit to take in. It's crazy enough that he's been placed in a new world, but now he's an immortal demigod chosen by God himself? In the middle of this revelation, as he looks towards the Stormtroopers, he blurts out. "But why? Why was I chosen?"

Valerie shrugs. "It's difficult to tell. Omni is quite mysterious."

Grapefruit looks back at Valerie and crosses his arms. "Of course." Well, there's no point in trying to find out why he's here. A more important problem on hand is getting acquainted with the Omniverse. He glances back at the soldiers clad in white armor, who have not taken notice of Grapefruit and Valerie due to their distance from the fountain. "Who are they?" Grapefruit asks.

Valerie's says, "They are Stormtroopers, pawns of the Empire."

That answer brings with it more questions for Grapefruit. He turns his full attention back to Valerie and starts to ask another question, but stops himself. Whatever Valerie's answer would be, it would only cause Grapefruit to want to ask more questions. And they can't be standing here all day. With a few seconds of thought, Grapefruit considers the prospects of sticking with Valerie. He is strange, especially when he says he might be a 'sinister ne'er-do-well' while he's trying to befriend Grapefruit. But, Grapefruit's going to need to talk to someone to learn about this new world, and Valerie is way nicer than most strangers. Grapefruit uncrosses his arms and says, "I think we should continue our conversation somewhere else. I have many questions to ask, and I don't think we'll be able to stand here all day."

RE: The Green Newcomer - Strazio Rockwell - 12-29-2017

Valerie nodded and smiled.

“Motion is good,” he said, brought a finger to his chin as if thinking, and then added, “though as far as safety is concerned The Nexus is probably the safest verse, the most dangerous things here are fresh primes who tend to be a bit unstable.”

“Unstable?” Grapefruit asked.

“Well, Omni does not only bring the virtuous into his world, but instead all manner of beings,” Val elaborated, “as you’ve experienced first hand the initial trip here can be quite jarring and some primes take to that quite poorly.”

Grapefruit said nothing, but seemed to understand. Valerie found himself unable to properly read the mechanical warrior. Not that he minded, after all mystery was the greatest spice to any character.

“At any rate,” Valerie said, “I’m currently looking for my former apprentice, I’ve got an inkling that I’ll find him in Camelot, you’re free to accompany me, but I will warn you my student does harbor a very sour disposition and he is quite easily perturbed, but all-in-all he’s a kind soul.”

RE: The Green Newcomer - Grapefruit - 12-29-2017

"Well, let's go find him." Grapefruit says. Working with Valerie seems to be his best shot at finding his place in the Omniverse, and it's not like he has anything better to do. "Which way is Camelot?" Grapefruit asks.

Valerie points over one of the distant gates. This one is guarded by several knights. "That finely-crafted stone gate will take us to our destination. It will be a long walk, but I'm sure you will get used to it." With that, both green individuals start walking over to Camelot's gate. Along the way, Grapefruit places the flower given to him inside a compartment in his hip, then spends a few minutes summoning more orange juice in order to keep himself fueled. After he manages to summon the orange juice and drink it, he asks, "Can you tell me more about your apprentice? What is his name?"

RE: The Green Newcomer - Strazio Rockwell - 01-08-2018

"Well, let's see, his name is Strazio Rockwell," Valerie said, tapping hus chin as he thought of his next few words, "and, as I mentioned, he has quite a temper, which is a shame really, if he had a more controlled temperment he could learn so much more than just rudimentary magick."

Grapefruit asked, "magick?"

Valerie wasn't sure if his robot companion was surprised at the notion of magick. Though in his home universe magi were hunted viciously by the hexeaters so the thought that Grapefruit's home might be similiar put a pause in the plant mage's heart. Val smiled and skipped ahead, twirling as he did.

"Why yes my dear, magick," he said as he came to a stop.

Val bit the pad of his thumb and drew out brightly colored green blood. He held out his hand with the palm facing upwards. A few drops of blood fell and stained the chapel white floors of the Nexus. From his wound flourished a boquet of exotic and beuatiful flowers.

"In my world it is shunned and feared, but that is simply because it is misunderstood," Val said and tossed away the boquet.

As the flowers flew through the air they quickly withered and died.

"Both my apprentice and I are magi, and I suppose I am as limited as he," Valerie said, "whilst I can only create, he can only destroy, polar opposites if you will, but we will meet him in due time and you shall see for yourself I'm sure, so please tell me about the world that you originate from, I'm sure it is a wonderful place."

RE: The Green Newcomer - Grapefruit - 01-08-2018

"Uh..." Grapefruit tries once more to recall his memory of his pre-Omniverse life, but with how little he remembered after spending a while standing by the fountain, he knows that it's a waste of effort. All that remains of his view of his world is a vague opinion. "I wish I could tell you, but I can't remember my previous life. Though, I do feel that it was... exciting..." Grapefruit's gaze turns toward the distant Camelot gate. He spends a few seconds examining the gate's guards, wondering if they will let him in. Valerie is pretty accepting of him, but what if the knights have a different opinion? If Grapefruit's face wasn't stiff, then Valerie could see worry etched on his face.

RE: The Green Newcomer - Strazio Rockwell - 01-22-2018

As the duo approached the Camelot soldiers Valerie skipped ahead of his mechanical friend. The magnanimous mage smiled and waved at the sentries. One of the guards smiled and waved back.

Val turned back to his friend, backpedaling as they walked, and said, “ah, that’s Vincent, he’s a lovely individual, I’ll introduce you two!”

Valerie rushed ahead, forcing Grapefruit to match his speed or fall behind. The plant mage embraced the Camelot soldier with a hug that was probably a bit too familiar for the soldier’s liking.

“Ah thanks Val,” he said, peeling himself from the mage’s embrace.

The soldier was a young man with a face that carried a veneer of stubble on its chin. A set of light blue eyes peered from beneath an ill-fitted skull cap. His armor was a simple leather cuirass with a chainmail shirt underneath.

“How is your family?” Valerie asked as they broke their hug.

Vincent adjusted his helmet and answered, “they’re doing great, that medicine you gave us really helped them out, thank you.”

Valerie clapped his hands together and exclaimed, “excellent!”

Vincent’s eyes flicked over to the towering robot and he asked, “so, uh, who’s your friend?”

“Ah,” Valerie answered, holding out his hands as if he was presenting Grapefruit to a panel of judges, “this is my newfound companion, Grapefruit, he’s a fresh prime and lovely fellow, I was planning on taking him on a tour around Camelot.”
Grapefruit waved in response.

“Prime huh?” Vincent said, his voice adopting a more serious tone as he addressed Grapefruit “”you’re not going to go on a rampage or anything like that are you?”

RE: The Green Newcomer - Grapefruit - 01-24-2018

Grapefruit looks at the three men guarding the gate. He was expecting them to be as friendly and outgoing as Valerie, but he instead finds himself being stared at by three distrustful guards. Well, seems Valerie's friendliness is the exception, not the rule. This shouldn't be a surprise. Valerie had told Grapefruit that not all 'fresh' primes are safe to be around. Valerie's face drops as he notices that the guards aren't taking kindly to his new companion. As Grapefruit starts to speak, a different guard interrupts him. "How do we know you're not one of the Empire's metal men?" He asks in an accusatory manner. Grapefruit's eyes dart to that guard. The guard flinches, his hand nearing the sheathed sword attached to his belt. The tension of the situation has become thick, and it feels like it's only a matter of time before somebody lashes out. And then, after what feels like a long time, Grapefruit speaks.

"Do you mean the stormtroopers?" He asks. With such an unintentionally intimidating glare, the guards were expecting him to say something like, 'Let me through if you want to live'. Instead, he just innocently asked a question, and in the process showed that he knew very little about the Empire. There's no way that one of the Empire's robots can be that dumb. The guards collectively chuckle, easing the tension of the situation. Grapefruit wonders if what he said made him look like an idiot. He feels a bit embarrassed. Valerie smiles, glad to see that things are working out.

"Valerie, you weren't kidding when you said that this guy's fresh." Vincent says in amusement. "How long have you been here?" He asks Grapefruit.

Grapefruit checks his internal clock. "About two hours."

"Well, you've been taking your summoning well. Some other primes have had more... violent reactions."

"Valerie told me about them. I'm not out to cause trouble, I just want to find my place here."

"I understand. Anyway, we should introduce ourselves. I'm Vincent."

One of the guards says, "My name's Jacob." The last guard says, "I'm Rick."

With introductions out of the way, Vincent says, "Welcome to Camelot, Grapefruit. And it's nice to see you, Valerie." He and the other guards step aside to let Valerie and Grapefruit through.

Valerie cheerfully says "Thank you, I'm joyed to see this companionship between you and Grapefruit sticking together. Well, we'll be on our way now. Let's get going, Grapefruit." He skips towards the gate, with Grapefruit quickly walking to keep up.

Suddenly, Vincent raises his hand out to stop Valerie. "Hold on, I should tell you something. Please be careful, with the way your friend looks, people might think he's an Empire soldier."

RE: The Green Newcomer - Hazel Vultoni - 01-26-2018

Phrases can have more than one meaning. For example, having direction. When you have direction, you know what to do. You’ve got a purpose, some goal to reach or challenge to overcome. Some sort of mission.

Having a direction is different, and is generally the easier of the two. It just means having a physical destination. You just go from point A to point B. It’s not that difficult if you’ve got a map and compass.

And in complete defiance of that, Hazel had not a single clue where to go. Her purpose was clear, but she’d been walking around the Nexus for who knows how long. Her compass was no help. The needle just spun counter-clockwise in it’s casing. Even if it did point north, it probably wouldn’t have helped. Eventually, she’d decided to head to a gate. No point in staying in the white expanse.

She’d been by two of the arches already. Her first thought had been to head into the gate of ice and snow. After all, that matched best with her objective. But while the general consensus between her head and heart was yes, her instincts gave a resounding no. And she’d ignored her instincts exactly once. It hadn’t ended well.

Next she’d passed by the gate of gray stone that was covered in moss. She’d contemplated entering this gate, but eventually decided against it. It’d be best to consider every option before making any decisions. She filed this gate under maybe and moved on.

Now she was almost to the third gate and was starting to question her plan. The distance between the arches was nothing to sneeze at. It’d take an eon to walk the full circle.

“I should have just gone through the last gate,” she muttered. “I’ll check this next gate. If I don’t go through it, I’m turning around.”

The gate was close now. Close enough that she could see a group of people in front of it. She’d just assumed they were part of the arch upon first spotting them. It seems she was mistaken. Either way, she was now just a few paces away from the gate and defiantly within earshot. She should probably announce her presence.

“Hello there.”

RE: The Green Newcomer - Grapefruit - 01-29-2018

The ensemble of people in front of the gate turn their attention to the newcomer. The three medieval guards think Hazel is just an ordinary citizen, so they give her a courteous smile. Valerie also smiles at her, but in a much more childlike manner, as if he believes he's about to make another new friend. The tall metal man, on the other hand, doesn't seem so friendly. From this distance, all Hazel can see of Grapefruit's face is two orange eyes peering out from under the shade of his fancy helmet. Despite Valerie's excitement, Rick is the first to speak. "Hello, are you passing through?"

Quote:Is it okay with you if we control Hazel?

RE: The Green Newcomer - Hazel Vultoni - 02-04-2018

“I suppose you could call it passing through.” Hazel said as she took in the group. It seemed to be all male, probably. A trio of guards stood around the gate. The didn’t look too different from the guards back home armor and weapon-wise.

The other two were different. The first had an odd air about him. Something that tingled on the edge of her awareness, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it.

The second was the largest of the bunch. He must be some kind of knight, dressed in full armor like that. The design of the armor was unlike anything she’d ever seen, and her curiosity was undeniably piqued.

“Say, I’m fairly new here. Can you tell me what lies beyond this gate?”

Quote:Thanks. Feel free to control any of the other characters, if you want.

Valerie manages to speak this time. "My, another new person?" He says happily. "Could you be a Prime?" Hazel, not understanding the terminology, is caught off guard and cannot answer.

Seeing the confused expression on her face, Vincent decides to help out. "A Prime is someone who was summoned here by Omni. Who summoned you?" He says.

Hazel is quick to respond this time. "This Omni you mentioned was the one that summoned me." She paused, her eyes scanning once more over the group. Valerie had begun standing on his toes, with his hands clasped together. "So yes, I am a Prime." She says.

Valerie cannot contain himself. It's only been a couple hours since he met Grapefruit, and already he gets to greet another fresh Prime to the Omniverse. "Welcome to the Omniverse!" He says, before taking a step forward while twirling. He starts growing a flower from his palm, while saying, "Through that gate is Camelot, a land of knights and magic, but now we must introduce ourselves! I am Valerie LaMolle." He gestures to each of the guards. "This is Vincent, Jacob, and Rick." All three of them wave at Hazel and say hello. Finally, Valerie gestures over to the knight on the other side of him. "And this is Grapefruit."

Grapefruit also waves. "Hello." He says, his calm synthetic voice heavily contrasting with his intimidating appearance.

Valerie proceeds to remove the growing flower from his hand. It is the same kind of flower that he gave to Grapefruit, with a tall thin stalk and orange petals. "This beautiful specimen is a Titian Lance, though it is different from its natural brethren in that I did not allow the nasty barbs that hide under its petals to form. Please take this as a token for a new friendship."

RE: The Green Newcomer - Hazel Vultoni - 02-20-2018

Hazel gingerly took the flower. It set off the same odd tingling sensation in her head that Valerie did. It also didn’t resemble any flower she’d ever seen before.

“Thank you. I’m honored to accept this token of friendship.”

Camelot, huh. This place would probably be her best bet. It sounded like home. It would at least be somewhat familiar.

Then again, perhaps it would be best to join this group. Strength in numbers and all that.

“If I may ask, where is your party headed? Perhaps you could use an extra person.”

RE: The Green Newcomer - Grapefruit - 02-25-2018

Valerie gives Hazel the same explanation he gave Grapefruit: he is going to Camelot to look for his former apprentice, Strazio Rockwell. He tells Hazel that she can accompany him and Grapefruit on this journey. He also mentions that Strazio is, to put it in his words, "Easy to unsettle and often in a sour mood", but he is ultimately a kind person once you get to know him.

RE: The Green Newcomer - Hazel Vultoni - 03-07-2018

“Sounds like someone I know.” Hazel replied with a chuckle, thinking of reddish-brown eyes. “I believe I will accompany you. It would benefit me to learn more about this place before I make any decisions.”

Hazel slid the orange flower into her satchel, careful not to snap the stem. She looked between Valerie and Grapefruit.

“Just lead the way.”

RE: The Green Newcomer - Grapefruit - 03-08-2018

As Hazel says that she should learn more about this place, Grapefruit nods his head. That is the same reason why he's accompanying Valerie, so he understands why Hazel would come to the same decision. It hasn't even been a day since either of them were pulled into this world, and they still barely know how any of it works. Though the two of them are very different, this simple circumstance makes Hazel the easiest for Grapefruit to relate to. He decides it would be in his best interest to stick with Hazel, as well as Valerie.

"Then let us go!" Valerie says before turning to face the gate. He realizes something, and looks back at Hazel. "Oh my, I forgot to ask what your name is."

"Don't worry, my name is Hazel Vultoni."

Vincent says, "Welcome to Camelot, Hazel. Good luck on your journey. And Grapefruit, remember to be careful. You'll be in trouble if someone thinks you're from the Empire."

Grapefruit says, "Thank you." before he and the rest of the group walk through the gate.
