Woe is I - Ganondorf - 08-12-2014

Laptop is kaput. What's that mean? I'll still be checking in, but until i find a solution i won't be writing and ill be unable to do weeklies. As soon as the problem is resolved, ill let you know.

Re: Woe is I - Monkey D. Luffy - 08-12-2014

That's a bummer man, hope that gets remedied soon.

That being said, I've been writing all of my roleplays via my iPhone's notepad noob! :accepted:

Re: Woe is I - Ganondorf - 08-12-2014

I have a crappy Galaxy S2. It writes poorly. Working on fixing the laptop myself, since I'm broke. Hoping it's a software problem and not hardware. I can't afford new hardware...

Re: Woe is I - Deadpool - 08-12-2014

If its a hardware problem you're better off buying a new laptop.

I saw a cheap laptop in best buy for like 199 I think. Might have been cheaper, actually.

Re: Woe is I - Omni - 08-12-2014

Fuuuu

Good luck in getting it fixed/replaced.

Re: Woe is I - Ganondorf - 08-12-2014

Fixed. Reinstalled Windows for the second time in like 3 months... hopefully this time will be the last.

Re: Woe is I - Nightwing - 08-12-2014

Which version are you running? Also, stop watching porn.

Re: Woe is I - Ganondorf - 08-12-2014

Windows 7. And yeah... I should probably stick to only looking at porn on my phone, like a normal person.

Re: Woe is I - Ganondorf - 08-12-2014

It's like a 4 year old laptop that went to the Afghan desert with me, was dropped numerous times, and whose casing is starting to actually fall apart. The fact that it works at all gives me hope for humanity.

Re: Woe is I - Proto Man - 08-12-2014

Yea, my almost three year old laptop is still lurching along, despite losing its screen, wireless adapter, a USB port, and little bits of his shell.

Someday I'll let him retire.

Someday.

Re: Woe is I - Ganondorf - 08-12-2014

One of my USB ports are pushed in, the AC/DC converter is held together with tape and works maybe 50% of the time, the port where the converter plugs in is iffy, it only recognizes the converter when at less than 95% power, if it charges all the way, the battery sends error messages, the vent cover is falling apart, and it's missing a corner of its casing. And that's aside from all the software issues I've been having...

I wish I had the money to build a desktop... too many bills. I might start purchasing parts one at a time...

Re: Woe is I - Nightwing - 08-13-2014

First question to ask yourself is what you need it for? Second thing to consider is what type of performance. For example, are you going to game on it or browse and collect family photos? Depending on your answer the Chromebooks offer a pretty cheap approach to computing.

Re: Woe is I - Deadpool - 08-13-2014

Yeah. If you just need a basic laptop that can do the basic shit, chrome book is the way to go. They're like 200, tops. Heard they're very efficient for simple tasks.

Re: Woe is I - Ganondorf - 08-13-2014

Well, if my current laptop craps out, at the minimum I'll need one to write with, and job search. Of course, i do game quite a deal on my laptop... Which is why I've been wanting to build a desktop. Tend to have a better money to hardware ratio and they're easier to upgrade.

Re: Woe is I - Ganondorf - 08-14-2014

Having problems with start up... Ugh... I can only assume it's a hardware issue. Thinking it's likely the hard drive. I haven't visited any websites which would cause these issues or downloaded anything sketchy.

Re: Woe is I - Ganondorf - 08-14-2014

Unless anyone else has any ideas.

Re: Woe is I - Omni - 08-14-2014

Apparently hard drives usually fail of their own accord within about five years. S'why I'm replacing mine, I've had it about five years now and it's showing bad signs. It's probably time to put 'er to bed. Cry

Re: Woe is I - Ganondorf - 08-14-2014

Lame... Guess it's time to visit Best Buy or some such...

Re: Woe is I - Omni - 08-14-2014

I recommend shopping around online. That's where you get the best deals. I dunno about the US equivalents, but I looked around on places like scan.co.uk and dabs.com and eventually found my current desktop which was an absolute steal for what it was, several hundred quid cheaper than equivalent PCs at other places and it's been fantastic to boot. Better to use somewhere that has user reviews if possible.

Re: Woe is I - Ganondorf - 08-14-2014

Normally I would, but I need my laptop fixed sooner rather than later. I use it to.job search, and for my Saturday D&D. Found a 320 GB for $40 at Best Buy, so that's not too bad. And until I get a full time job, it's likely my best option.
